Thorne Hedgehog Rescue

Our Mission

Helping One Hedgehog at a Time

Our Mission

thorne hedgehog rescue are a charity based in the Ashford, Kent covering the UK

With a passionate team of volunteers and the on-going support of our community, we’ve built a safe haven for sick, injured, and orphaned hedgehogs. Every action we take is rooted in care, compassion, and a commitment to making a tangible difference in their lives.

New Beginnings

Thorne Hedgehog Rescue is a non-profit, community-driven organisation based in Pluckley, Kent. From our humble beginnings to becoming one of the most active hedgehog rescues in the region, we’ve grown thanks to the hard work of unpaid volunteers and the support of our community.

Key Milestones:

  • 2022: Founded with a vision to provide life-saving care to hedgehogs in distress.
  • 2023: Cared for over 527 hedgehogs, a testament to the increasing need for rescue services across Kent.
  • Present: Operating 24/7 with five satellite locations and a main rescue site featuring a purpose-built "hedgehog hospital."

What We Do

We provide life-saving care to hedgehogs suffering from injuries, illness, or malnutrition. Our team ensures every hedgehog receives the medical attention, nutrition, and care it needs to recover.

Our ultimate goal is to release hedgehogs back into the wild, where they belong. We carefully select safe release sites, ensuring each hedgehog has the best chance to thrive.

Through community talks, school visits, and social media, we educate people about the challenges hedgehogs face and how they can help – from creating hedgehog highways to avoiding harmful pesticides.

As a non-profit, we rely entirely on donations and fundraising efforts to continue our work. By advocating for hedgehog conservation, we inspire others to join our mission.

Hedgehogs in our Hearts

At Thorne Hedgehog Rescue, we are guided by compassion, education, sustainability, and community. These values drive our mission to protect and care for hedgehogs, ensuring they not only survive but thrive in a safer, healthier world.

Every hedgehog matters, and every rescue is treated with the utmost care and respect.

We aim to empower individuals and communities with the knowledge needed to protect and support local wildlife.

Protecting the ecosystem is at the heart of everything we do, from releasing rehabilitated hedgehogs to promoting hedgehog-friendly practices.

We work hand-in-hand with volunteers, supporters, and local organisations to make a lasting impact.

I found a hedgehog out in my garden
during the day, after speaking to Lisa she kindly put me in touch with one of her
colleagues. Within half hour of making
the call, the little hedgehog was in their care receiving treatment.
Can’t thank them enough for their
support and updates.

The lovely and dedicated Lisa took in a new patient this Sunday Coronation weekend, Luigi, a very sick hog. Lisa had
been working for hours on an array of
patients. What a superstar and thank
goodness for people so dedicated. Deep respect and thank you. Wishing Luigi a successful recovery for various
ailments and a return home soon.
