Thorne Hedgehog Rescue is a registered non-profit organisation (C.I.C number 14318298) that rescues our native, 'vulnerable to extinction' European Hedgehog with the aim to rehabilitate and release all those admitted.
The rescue operates 24/7 with a team of 10 unpaid volunteers, including drivers and students on work experience. By July 2024, Thorne Hedgehog Rescue was caring for approximately 120 hedgehogs simultaneously, with expectations to exceed 150 due to increasing demand.
The organization collaborates with other local rescues, such as Wrens Hill Hedgehog Rescue and Hogwinkles in Faversham, to address the growing need for hedgehog rehabilitation in Kent.
Hedgehogs face numerous threats, including habitat loss, pesticide use, and injuries from gardening equipment. Thorne Hedgehog Rescue emphasizes the importance of creating "hedgehog highways" by making small holes in fences to allow hedgehogs to travel between gardens safely.
Harry is 227g, he had suffered a limb amputation and the bone is sticking out. Presenting with flystrike he was cleaned up and is on pain relief and antibiotics until he sees the vet.
Hermione is 197g and was seen out in the daytime all by herself. She is far too small to survive alone so is here to keep warm and fatten up. She is being treated for Capillaria. She has pure white claws!
Freddie is 219g and was found wandering across a road. He has a poorly eye and may have limited/no vision in the other.
Thorne Hedgehog Rescue is working tirelessly to protect one of Britain’s most beloved species. Each donation helps us rehabilitate sick and injured hedgehogs, provide them with necessary medical care, and release them back into their natural habitats.
